Paulding County Fire Rescue Breathing Equipment

Amount: $138,300
Justification: The Paulding County Fire Rescue operates under the Paulding County Board of Commissioners office. They are requesting $138,300 for new breathing equipment. Specifically, they need new air cylinders and lightweight packs. This project is a good use of taxpayer funds because it not only is being allocated to replace first responders' life-saving equipment, but it also lowers the cost to the county.

Rome/Floyd Fire Department Equipment Project

Justification: The project would be a valuable use of taxpayer funds because it would help the Rome/Floyd Fire Department provide prompt and skillful fire protection services to Northwest Georgians. More specifically, the department is requesting NFPA 1802 P25 Compliant Portable Radios with a Bluetooth Capabilities Package and a Bluetooth Compatible Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus Package. This equipment will provide firefighters with the tools they need to serve the community more effectively.

Dade County Water and Sewer Authority Raw Water Intake Screen Project

Justification: The project is a valuable use of taxpayer funds because it would prevent damage to intake pumps at a water treatment plant. This is necessary to guarantee the sustainability and reliability of the Dade County Water & Sewer Authority to provide safe and clean water to its consumers.

Whitfield County Sewer Expansion Project

Amount: $1,397,440
Justification: The project is a valuable use of taxpayer funds because it will mitigate pollution in both the water supply as well as support residential growth in an underserved area of Whitfield County. The large undeveloped tracts of land in this area have been planned for suburban residential, and multifamily residential development. With residential development pressures recently increasing throughout the northern portion of Whitfield County, there is concern that sufficient sewer access does not currently exist to support the expected growth.

Cobb County Water Main Replacement Project

Amount: $1,650,000
Justification: The project is a valuable use of taxpayer funds because it will replace and upsize a water main. The water main needs to be replaced due to the age of the existing lines and upsizing the line will connect it to the County’s existing line which will improve water service to the City of Powder Springs.

Justification: The project is a valuable use of taxpayer funds because it will allow for the airport to keep up with the growing demands of Floyd County. The Taxiway Bravo expansion and improvements will correct existing drainage deficiencies at the airfield, eliminate potential points of conflict between taxiing aircraft, and free additional space for hangar construction and airport development - up to 6 box/commercial hangars, and up to 60 additional T-hangars.

Historic Oostanaula School Community Center Renovation

Justification: The project is a valuable use of taxpayer funds because it will allow for rehabilitation of a valued and historic community center. The community center has been providing non-profit services for over 50 years, raising over a million dollars for medical bills, funeral expenses, and other major needs in the rapidly growing community. This structural and cosmetic renovation project will allow for the continuation of services and fostering of stronger community relations in the area for years to come.

Austell-Powder Springs Trail Expansion

Amount: $ 1,600,000
Justification: The project would significantly increase options for non-automobile transportation for County residents, businesses, visitors, and the general public to and from a variety of destinations, as well as to further connect two growing cities in Cobb County. The project is one of eight priority projects that are identified in Cobb County-adopted 2018 Greenways and Trails Master Plan. It will create a 12-foot-wide paved trail to run approximately four miles alongside Austell-Powder Springs Road from the Silver Comet Trail and Linear Park in the City of Powder Springs to Joe Jerkins Boulevard in the City of Austell.
